As they say: "Rome was not built in a day." The Graduate College which lies in the heart of Khanpur city, adorming thousands of students
with the knowledge, had a humble beginning in the form of Primary School in 1957. After facing ups and downs, it attainted its present
status as the most prestigious institution of Tehsil Khanpur. After the establishment of Pakistan, Khan Pur received a heavy flux of
population during 1947-1955. Increasing demand of the people urged some of the sincere philanthropists of Khanpur to setup
AnjumanTaraqi-e-Taleem. Aplot was purchased opposite to city Police Station. Khanpur on 6 June 1957 and two rooms were constructed.
Soon Taraqi-e-Taleem Primary School Started to work. This school was Registered to the AnjumanT araqi-e-Taleem on 3 July, 1958 under
the Registration Act 1956.
The Primary School was upgraded to High School in 1960 and Chaudhary Ibrahim was appointed the First Headmaster of the school
This school progressed by leaps and bound, which urged the AnjumanT araqiTaleem to upgrade it to a college. The Anjuman contacted one of the renowned educationists of the area Mr. Moeen-ud-Din Hassan Oureshi, and he was kind enough to offer his services for the establishment of the college. The Anjuman also purchased 6.25 acres of land with 4200/- rupees in Model Town Khanpur, a place where the present building of the college is situated. Mr. Moeen ud Din joined TaraqiTaleem High school on 4 April 1965 and accelerated his efforts for the establishment of college. A regular class of first year was started on 26 June, 1965 in the High School Building A new block of five rooms constructed during this period and the college started its regular work on 17th December 1966.
Intermediate Pre-Engineering classes started in 1969. Office Block, Physics and Chemistry Laboratories and a store room were constructed with 100 thousand rupees. Soon the Pre-Medical classes also started in the college. The Governing body of the college gave it the status of a Degree College in 1970 and the college was conditionally affiliated with the Punjab university in 1971
In 1972, The Government of Pakistan decided to nationalize the schools and colleges of the country. So this college was nationalized on 15 March, 1972 under Martial Law Regulation Number 118. The college was nationalized as an intermediate College because its regular affiliation with the Punjab University Lahore was not confirmed till that time
In 1981-82 Municipal Committee Khanpur donated two acres of land to the college and the area of the college expanded to 66 kanals. The college was upgraded to Degree level in 1984. A hostel was constructed in 1988-89 to meet the residential problems of the students coming from the far flung are as
The college was upgraded to Postgraduate level in 2004 and M. A English and M. A Urdu classes started. However, MA Economics classes started in the college in 2008. MSc Mathematics, MCS and MA Islmiat Classes started in the college in 2015.
New M A/M.Sc Block is constructed and classes are to be started their from the year 2016.
BS in six of the Programs started in 2021& name of the college changed to Govt. Graduate College Khanpur
BS programs in Evening started in 2020.
BS Botany 4 year and BS two years BS Computer Science, BS Botany, BS Chemistry, BS Urdu, BS English, BS Mathematic and 1.5 Years B.Ed started in 2022
In Sha Allah two years BS Islamiat after ADP will start in 2023.
